Watch Paul Simon's first-ever duet with The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir

Paul Simon closed out the 2019 Outside Lands festival on Sunday at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, and during his encore, he treated fans to a duet rendition of his Simon & Garfunkel classic "The Boxer" with a very special guest: The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir.

You can check out fan-shot footage of the performance now on YouTube. Before introducing Weir, Simon explained that he first met the singer/guitarist in 1967, when he went to the house where The Grateful Dead lived to ask the band to perform at the famous Monterrey International Pop Festival.

"I knocked on the door of their house," Paul recalled, "and Bob Weir opened the door, and we've been friends ever since. But actually, this is our first duet."

Weir then took the stage, and the two musicians played acoustic guitars together as Simon's band provided accompaniment.

Paul played a 21-song set that was made up mainly of well-known songs from his solo career, including "Late in the Evening," "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover," "Mother and Child Reunion," "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," "You Can Call Me Al," "Graceland" and "Still Crazy After All These Years."

Simon also played three songs with the string ensemble yMusic, who contributed to his 2018 studio album In the Blue Light, including a version of "Bridge over Troubled Water."

Paul closed the concert with a pair of solo acoustic performances of his 1971 solo track "American Tune" and Simon and Garfunkel's 1965 chart-topper "The Sound of Silence."

As previously reported, Simon is donating all net proceeds from his Outside Lands performance to two local environmental organizations, San Francisco Parks Alliance and Friends of the Urban Forest.

Next up for Paul are two benefit shows on Maui, Hawaii, this Tuesday and Wednesday.
